And by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
Here is another purpose of Jesus; He came to offer us justification from the shackles of requirements mandated by the laws to attain righteousness and be in the good book of God.
Before His coming, the people of God were under the regime of the various precepts that God had communicated to Moses at different times on the way to the Promised Land – the dos and don’ts of day-to-day living. It is in strict adherence to these rules that righteousness is determined (Leviticus 18:5).
Jesus did not come to abrogate the laws altogether; He Himself confirmed that by saying, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfil” (Matthew 5:17). He came as a man to experience firsthand the struggles that humans face to comply with the regime of the law and to offer grace to help in our areas of struggle (Hebrews 4:15). He also came to simplify all the laws for us by summing them into two easy-to-remember laws: love your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself.
So, while the laws are still operational, Jesus functions as an intervention between every individual who believes in Him and their need to fulfil the requirements of the law. While not nullifying their need to abide by the standards of God, He is the visible Force and go-between between God and every believer, offering grace to help those who believe in Him to live up to the ideals of God, while covering up for them before God in their areas of failings; that is the justification.
Since Jesus is the High Priest representing humans in the holy Presence of God (Hebrews 5), where sin and foibles cannot stand, His perfection is what the LORD sees when considering a believer at any point in time. On the other hand, His love and compassion are what the believer sees when relating with God, rather than being directly exposed to the Holiest of All Who does not condone sin and failings.
Jesus does that much for those who believe in Him. Nobody else can represent you before God. Now, won’t you rather make Him your Lord today and forever, and let Him do the holy stuff with God while you do your best on earth?
You will succeed in Jesus Name!
