How to Achieve Success in the Marketplace
Two friends joined a wholesale company together just after their graduation. Both worked very hard.
After several years, the boss promoted one of them to the post of Senior Sales Executive but the other remained a Sales Executive.
One day, the one who was not promoted could not take it anymore. He tendered his resignation and complained that the boss did not value hard-working staff, but only promoted those who flattered him.
The boss knew that he worked very hard for the years he’d spent in the company, but in order to help him realize the difference between him and his counterpart who was promoted, he sent him a task.
“Go and find out if anyone is selling watermelon in the market.”
The disgruntled fellow went and then returned saying, “Yes, there is someone.”
The boss asked how much per kilogram? Not having the answer, this young man had to go back to the market to ask. He later returned to inform the boss that the price was $12 per kilogram.
The boss then told him we would send the one that was promoted on the same errand and he should pay close attention to his response.
The other man went on the same errand and returned saying, “Boss, there is only one person selling watermelon. The cost is $12 per kg and $100 for 10 kg. He has an inventory of 340 melons. On the table, there were 58 melons, with each one weighing about 15 kg. They were purchased from the South two days ago, they are fresh and red with good quality.”
The jealous worker was very impressed by the answer of his friend and realized the difference between both of them. He decided not to resign anymore, but rather to learn from him.
To be successful in the marketplace, you must be observant, think more, have a holistic perspective and go the extra mile. Go to work today with a better approach to your work or business, and you will rule the market.
