Here’s God’s Take; What’s Yours?
I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name…
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.
– Psalm 138:2
“Awesome” is one of the many English superlatives we use to describe God. Some other common adjectives are faithful, mighty, merciful, gracious, compassionate, omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, sovereign, etc.
God is also known by many names, based on His manifestations and revelations to His people. Some of His popular Hebrew names include:
Adonai-Jehovah – The Lord our Sovereign
El-Elyon – The Lord Most High
El-Olam – The Everlasting God
El-Shaddai – The God Who is Sufficient for the Needs of His People
Jehovah-Elohim – The Eternal Creator
Jehovah-Jireh – The Lord our Provider
Jehovah-Nissi – The Lord our Banner
Jehovah-Ropheka – The Lord our Healer
Jehovah-Shalom – The Lord our Peace

There are even more names in various dialects all over the world; thus lending credence to the song:
You’ve been faithful Lord
Through the ages long
That is why Your name
Is forever praised.
In the passage above [Psalm 138:2], the Psalmist revered the name of God. But he also gave us an insight on the disposition of God. He said God magnifies His word above all His names! Now, that’s huge!
What name of God do you call upon? The Bible says God Himself rates His Word above such name and other names you may call Him. Perhaps, He wants us to accord the same importance to His Word by devoting time to studying and applying it. It may be the best compliment we’ll pay Him. Now that is God’s take where His word is concerned.
You will succeed in Jesus Name!
