How To Discover Your Purpose (Part 3)

How To Discover Your Purpose (Part 3)

And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!” Gideon said to Him, “…if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”  Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”
Judges 6:12-14

Are there certain human or societal failing that bothers you to no end; that you wish you could do something to correct? That is an indicator of your assignment. There is no better way to identify your assignment on earth than by examining your agitations and fits.

In our reference scripture, Gideon only needed a harmless greeting to lapse into such fits querying God and whoever cared to listen as to why he and his people continued to live in such a state of fear, intimidation and deprivation.

Do you think he replied his greeter in a solemn tone? Judging by his words, he must have been in such a state, raising his voice and flailing his arms in helpless acknowledgement of the problem of his people and his inability to do something about it. He queried, “If God is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all the miracle-wonders our parents and grandparents told us about…The fact is, God has nothing to do with us—he has turned us over to Midian!” [The Message]

Note that it was Gideon the angel addressed, not the whole Israelites. But, because of the people-centredness of purpose, Gideon naturally looked beyond himself and started venting about the social issue troubling his mind. He probably did not know when he started to say “us” in his emotion-laden response. In the passage, he mentioned “us” six times and at no time did he say “I!”

Purpose is people-centred. That social problem you are so consumed with may be the guide to identifying your assignment.

You will succeed in Jesus Name!
