Portals of Destiny (3)

Portals of Destiny (3)

I read in your letter what you wrote about me, And I’m coming to the party you’re throwing for me. That’s when God’s Word entered my life, became part of my very being. So I said, “I’m here to do it your way, O God, the way it’s described in your Book. (Psalms 40:7- 8 and Hebrews 10:7 MSG)

God in His manifold wisdom has encoded the destiny of each and every one of us in His Word; and He has commissioned the Holy Spirit to reveal it to us progressively as we fellowship with Him. It is therefore important that we commit to knowing what has been written concerning us in the realm of eternity so we can express it in the realm of time.

As you study and meditate on the Word, you will discover that there is a general destiny for all the children of God as the body of Christ, and there is a specific destiny for each child of God as a member of that body.

However, just like all the cells of your body bear the same genetic pedigree and are in that respect similar, all members of the body of Christ bear the genetic imprint of Christ and in that respect, have a common destiny. That common destiny is to be conformed to the image of Christ (Romans 8:29).

Consequently, as you become more conformed to the image of Christ you become more empowered to fulfil destiny. In like manner, the progressive fulfilment of your specific destiny should cause you to be more conformed to the image of Christ.

True success is when we live according to God’s ordination and fulfil His plan for us rather than our personal ambitions. It is only within this context – the context of living out God’s script for our lives – that we can bring glory to God.

Top 10 Reasons To Believe In The Christian Faith

1. The Credibility of Its Founder: Peter spoke for Jesus’ closest followers when he said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that You are the Holy One of God.” (John 6:68-69)

2. Reliability of Its Book: The integrity of this historical and geographical record is supported by archaeology. The Bible continues to speak not only with spiritual power but with convincing prophetic accuracy.

3. Explanations for Life: It is the Christian faith that reflects a caring attention to detail so evident in the species and ecosystems of the natural world. It is Christ who clothed himself in our humanity to feel what we feel and then to suffer and die in our place.

4. Its Continuity with the Past: The Christian faith offers continuity with our deepest ancestral roots. Those who trust Christ are accepting the same Creator and Lord worshipped by Adam, Abraham, and Solomon.

5. Its Foundational Claim: The first Christians were witnesses. They risked their lives to tell the World that with their own eyes they had seen an innocent man die and then miraculously walk among them three days later.

6. Its Power to Change Lives: Not only were the first disciples dramatically changed but so were their worst enemies. Paul was transformed from a killer of Christians into one of their chief advocates (Galatians 1:11-24).

7. Its Analysis of Human Nature: The Bible says that society’s real problems are problems of the heart. In an age of information and technology, failures of character have scandalized institutions of the family, religion, and the arts.

8. Its View of Human Achievement: Generation after generation has hoped for the best. We have conceived technologies that will deliver us from the oppressive slavery of work. Yet we are as close as ever to what the New Testament describes as the end times. (Matthew 24:5-31).

9. Its Impact on Society: From rooftops to necklaces to earrings, we see the sign of the cross, bearing visible witness to Christ’s death. Social relief agencies have been fuelled by the direct or residual values of the Bible.

10. Its Offer of Salvation: No other faith offers everlasting life as a gift to those who trust the One who has overcome death for them. No other system offers the assurance of forgiveness and adoption into the family of God.

Teach Your Child

Teach Your Child

A six-year-old kid was always complaining of being bullied at school. So the father followed him to the school’s PTA meeting. While at the meeting, the boy suddenly came to the father whimpering that some kid just slapped him.

The father rose from his seat, loosened his belt and beat the poor kid mercilessly like a criminal. When he was done, he handed the belt to the child and shouted, “Now go out there and give twice that to the burger that slapped you!”

All of a sudden, there was pandemonium in the room as all the parents rushed through the doorway to secure their wards before the now angry boy could leave the room.

Since that day, nobody ever touched that boy again until he graduated from high school.

Moral: Teach your child the way of the Lord so that when he grows, he may not depart. But teach him also the ways of the world so that he may live long enough to walk in the ways of the Lord.

Meditation: So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light. – Luke 16:8

But when I turned to look at all that I had accomplished and all the hard work I had put into it, I saw that it was all pointless. It was like trying to catch the wind. I gained nothing from any of my accomplishments under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 2:11 GWT)

Man is created for eternity and nothing short of this will satisfy the deepest longing in his soul. Where do you think the concept of immortalisation came from? Why do we have monuments like Lincoln Memorial and national holidays like Martin Luther King’s Day? Why do we name our institutions after dead people and print their pictures on our currency notes? We do all these simply because, deep within us, there is a part of us that wants to live forever – because we are designed to live forever. Eternity is our destiny.

From the Tower of Babel through the days of King Solomon until now, men have attempted to substitute many things for this call of destiny. People in every age have experimented with achievements, materialism, subjugation and conquest, spiritism, cultism, drugs, sex and other forms of hedonistic pleasures as possible alternatives to the call of destiny. But like King Solomon, they have discovered that it is all vanity upon vanity (Ecclesiastes 3:9-11).

Every human being is born with a divinely implanted sense of purpose and cannot find fulfilment/lasting satisfaction outside that purpose. The height of success in life is to discover God’s specific plan for your life and to effectively live it out. No matter how much wealth, fame and earthly comfort you have, there is a deep sense of satisfaction that comes ONLY from being exactly who God has made you to be, doing what God has made you to do and knowing that you are in alignment with the eternal Spirit.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11 AMP)

Man (the human race) was not created for time as we know it; man was created for time as God knows it because man was created to live in the realm of God. God did this because He desired (and still desires) to fellowship with man and fulfil His purpose on earth through man. God intends for humanity as a whole to carry out His purpose and execute His grand design on the earth. To this end, God being an eternal Spirit, created man as a replica of Himself and made him His representative on earth.

God’s original intention has always been to exercise His dominion on earth through humanity – and He has not changed His mind. God wants to establish His kingdom on earth just as it is in heaven; and he has chosen to do it through us. Needless to say, this is a very big assignment that is beyond any single person.

So, God in His infinite wisdom has apportioned various portions of this eternal assignment to every human being in every age and time. This unique individual portion of eternity – packaged in the capsule of time and assigned by God to every man – is what we have come to know as destiny, a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy. It is the conscious discovery, consistent pursuit and continuous fulfilment of this destiny that gives life a meaning.
