The Window of Encouragement

The Window of Encouragement

The Window of Encouragement

Two men were very sick. They shared the same room in the hospital. One of them was lying in the bed near the only window in their room. Every day, the nurse and caregivers would let him spend some time sitting up in his bed to help draining the fluid from lungs. The other man had to spend all his days flat on his back.

Both men talked a lot about their life, families – everything they could think of. Whenever the first man was sitting by the window, he would give a detailed description of all that he saw outside the window. Every day, the other man eagerly looked forward to those moments when the beautiful picture of the world outside would help to brighten his world.

Exciting views of a park with a beautiful lake could be seen from the window of their room. Children delightfully played among ducks and swans. Couples walked arm in arm among beautiful flowers. The stunning city skyline was also in sight.

When the man by the window had been thoroughly describing all that was happening outside the window, the other man would close his eyes and imagine all the beautiful scenes of life that his roommate described to him.

One night the man, whose bed was near the window, died peacefully during sleep. This left his roommate very sad.

After a while, when the nurse came to visit him, he asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse agreed and kindly made the switch. When she left, the man slowly and painfully propped himself up on one elbow and took his first look at the world outside. He was stunned. The window was directly in front of a blank wall.

The next time the nurse came to check him, he told her about beautiful things outside the window that his roommate described to him. The nurse replied that his roommate was a blind man. She added that: “Probably he just tried to encourage you.”

Grandma and the Cake

Grandma and the Cake

A little boy is telling his Grandma how “everything” is going wrong. School, family problems, severe health problems, etc. Meanwhile, Grandma is baking a cake. She asks her grandson if he would like a snack, which of course he does.

“Here, have some cooking oil.”

“Yuck” says the boy.

“How about a couple raw eggs?”

“Gross, Grandma!”

“Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?”

“Grandma, those are all yucky!”

To which Grandma replies, “Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake! God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!”

Snakes on the Plane

Snakes on the Plane

Snakes on the Plane

Having problems is not a problem but rather a lesson.

Venomous snakes were being ferried from Africa to Europe in a plane. Unfortunately, the person who packed the snakes forgot to lock the box in which the snakes were put. Once the plane had taken off and responding to the movement of the plane, the snakes found their way out of the box. Passengers in the plane could see various snakes on the isle. They screamed, some fainted and the brave ones sought refuge wherever they could within the plane.

The airhostess ran to the pilot to inform him of this scary incident. The pilot quickly informed the air controllers on the ground.

“We are very sorry”, says his boss. “We forgot to lock the box where we put the snakes. They are indeed some of the most poisonous snakes in the world. So where can I land? Please advise me before passengers are bitten”, asks the shaky pilot.

“No do not land, stay there for a minute, let me think”, advises the boss. Surely, this sounds like stupid advice to the impatient pilot. But he has to follow the orders. A minute is too long for someone faced with such trouble he thinks. But he has to follow orders.

After a minute, the boss contacts him. “At what altitude are you flying? He asks.

“300”, says the pilot. “Go higher”, advises the boss. “But the snakes will….” Before he finishes his sentence the boss bellows “I said go higher!”.

He complies.

“Now what’s your altitude?” Asks the boss. “500.66”, answers the shaken pilot

“Go higher”

“But sir…”

“I said go higher captain.” He complies.

By now the snakes are all over the plane, even one male member of the cabin crew collapses. It is unbearable. A few have been bitten and have instantly died. But still, the majority keeps on seeking refugee.

“Now captain, keep on going higher”, says the boss. The pilot complies and keeps on going higher and higher. “Now what’s your altitude?” asks the pilot. “I am reaching 1200”, replies the pilot. “Now I am on 1200”, he says quickly.

“Now stay there. Tell the cabin crew that at this altitude the snakes are now harmless. They can just pick them up with their hands and return them to the box and this time they should not forget to lock.” advises the boss.

This is true. One cabin crew member tries holding one snake. It is numb and harmless. Soon it is a game within the plane with passengers, some for the first time holding snakes in their hands and returning them to the box. “Look at this black mamba, it was really after me. Now I can even throw it and catch it like a ball”, says one passenger.

This was the end of the seemingly dangerous ordeal in the plane. Even those who had fainted were resuscitated.

Now what is the lesson of the story?

In this life, the snakes or problems will follow you. However, there is need for you to increase your altitude in prayer. And surely, there is a certain point in praying that you reach and this is the point when even the most seemingly unconquerable problems are defeated; they lose power. In the Name of GOD.

Tomorrow is Not Promised

Tomorrow is Not Promised

Tomorrow is Not Promised

Sometimes people come into your life
and you know right away that they were meant to be there,
they serve some sort of purpose,
teach you a lesson
or help figure out who you are
and who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be:
your neighbor, child, long lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger
who, when you lock eyes with them,
you know at that very moment that they will affect your life
in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you
and at the time they seem painful and unfair,
but in reflection you realize
that without overcoming those obstacles
you would have never realized
your potential strength, will power, or heart.

Everything happens for a reason.
Nothing happens by chance
or by means of good or bad luck.
Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity
all occur to test the limits of your soul.

Without these small tests,
whether they be events, illnesses or relationships,
life would be like a smoothly paved straight flat road to nowhere,
safe and comfortable,
but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life
and the successes and downfalls you experience
create who you are,
and even the bad experiences can be learned from,
In fact, they are probably the poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart,
forgive them,
for they have helped you learn about trust
and the importance of being cautious to
whom you open your heart…

If someone loves you,
love them back unconditionally,
not only because they love you,
but because they are teaching you to love
and opening your heart and eyes to things
you would have never seen or felt without them.

Make every day count.
Appreciate every moment
and take from it everything that you possibly can,
for you may never be able to experience it again…

Talk to people you have never talked to before,
and actually listen,
let yourself fall in love,
break free and set your sights high…

Hold your head up because you have every right too.
Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself…
for if you don’t believe in yourself,
no one else will believe in you either.

Create your own life
and then go out and live in it!
“Live Each Day As If It Were Your Last…
Tomorrow is Not Promised.”
