He sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.
– 2 Chronicles 26:5
We know it takes a lot of hard work and concentration to achieve success. Also, it is a generally accepted fact that success is easier attained than maintained. Once success is achieved, it requires a lot more efforts and resources to keep and grow it than what were expended in the process of acquiring it.
There are two fundamental ways to go about achieving one’s aim in life – the God’s way or the world’s way. We have devoted a number of editions of this devotional to exploring the various ways one can attain success the God’s way. And there are still more to come, because God is very interested in the success of His children. Meanwhile, even as He is very particular about their achieving success, God is also very keen that their success is maintained and grown, rather than it flittering away with the years.
The passage above tells us what it takes to maintain success. It was culled from the story of Uzziah, a man that was made a king at age 16. Not knowing what to do, he decided to seek the counsel of God through His prophet, Zachariah. And the Bible tells us that as long as Uzziah sought God in his new calling, he was prosperous and was able to cope pretty well with the massive responsibility thrust on him at such a young age.
Conversely, it means whenever Uzziah lost sight of God, maybe because he got sucked up in the pressures and demands of his office and time seemed too little in between to maintain his fellowship with God or seek His counsel on the matters of state, he must have struggled and failed miserably.
You will succeed in Jesus Name!
